At the Oldenburg Competition 4 countries participated namely: Sweden, Great Britain, Germany and South Africa. The new electronic targets and big screen display were introduced and the experience was amazing.

Our shooters did well and Neil Oosthuizen went through to the final with a score of 605.6. He walked away with the Gold medal for the 10m Jun men Olympic event after a gruelling final. Well done Neil. One of our men’s teams entered also managed to receive the second place in the team event. Congratulations to Neil, Carl and Richard.

The Grand Prix was a men’s and ladies’ combined event (60 shots) and Anzelle Booyens won the Silver medal with a score of 608.9. Well done Anzelle!  Surprisingly, Gold, Silver and Bronze were won by the ladies.

The International Shooting Contest of Hannover was a much bigger event and attended by many countries. The SAARA team competed against some very famous medallists.  The atmosphere on the shooting range was charged and stressful but our young team kept their cool and made the most of the international exposure. Valuable lessons were learned and they enjoyed the high standard of the range and the competition.

Anzelle and Dominique sneaked up on the famous medallist Jen McIntosh and managed to get a few words in and pose for a photo!

Our juniors are still young and participated under immense pressure. We are very proud of them and they walk away from this tour with many lessons learned and new goals. They were excellent ambassadors and did us proud.  A word of thanks to their parents and coaches who helped them achieve their best and made it possible for them to attend this tour.

Congratulations to Chris Carstens, a blind athlete from the Western Cape, who took part in his first formal air rifle march in the Western Cape on 9 May 2015. Chris managed to achieve a score of 373.2 taking part in the 10m Olympic mens event in the F Class.

Chris used an electronic sighting system that provides him with an audio signal that changes in tone depending on the value of the shot as he aims at the target.

Welll done Chris and all of the best with your shooting career.
